Variety: Ate de Jong in complete command of material in utterly original Fogbound
Variety Magazine, 14.08.2002
Leading US film magazine Variety reviewed Fogbound, the newest Anglo-Dutch production of Mulholland Pictures,
as "utterly original", "brimming with provocative ideas" and "charged with a refreshing psychosexual energy". The magazine's review praised director Ate de Jong for his "complete command of material, the obvious result of decade-long
labor on the script and collaboration of poet-actor-screenwriter Michael Lally".
Fogbound premiered this summer on the Czech Karlovy Vary Film Festival, premiers this month in the Netherlands and will appear on the Hollywood Film Festival in october. Variety's review expressed admiration for Fogbound's tech credits, which are "tops". Especially the excellent features of the Dutch soundstage where the film was shot together
with Jeroen Krabbé's The Discovery of Heaven, drawed the magazine's attention. Together with the "utterly believable fogbank from d.p. Erwin Roodhart and the striking production design of Peter Greenaway regular Ben van Os, various digital tricks are used to enhance the dreamlike nature of the fantasy sequences ... nearly all of them serve to enhance the story
without drawing undue attention to themselves." You can read the whole review on Fogbound's webpages.
