Ate de Jong

Ate de Jong was born in 1953, and studied at the Filmacademy in Amsterdam from 1970 to 1974. Between 1976 and 1986 Ate directed six movies in Holland, such as A Flight of Rainbirds and Shadow of Victory. Jeroen Krabbé was starring in these two latter movies.

In 1986 Ate moved to Hollywood, where he directed an episode of Miami Vice and two movies: Highway to Hell and Drop Dead Fred. Since eight years, Ate lives in London. He directed the European co- production All Men Are Mortal, based on the novel by Simone de Beauvoir.

He produced Left Luggage and The Discovery of Heaven, and he also produced and directed Fogbound. Since February 2005, Ate de Jong is sole owner and director of Mulholland Pictures BV.


Edwin de Vries

Edwin de Vries (1950) graduated at the Amsterdam School of Acting in 1972. As an actor and director, he was involved in a lot of theatre- and movieproductions in the Netherlands. He co-starred with Jeroen Krabbe in Ate de Jong's feature Shadow of Victory for which he also co-wrote the screenplay.

Amongst other productions, he played in A Month Later (1987), which was co-written by Ate de Jong, the Harry Mulisch- bookadaption Last Call (1995), and the Leon de Winter- bookadaption Hoffman's Hunger (1993). Edwin wrote a lot of Dutch highly acclaimed tv- series, as In de Vlaamsche Pot and Mijn Dochter en Ik, and also wrote the screenplay for the movie Left Luggage (1998).

Edwin took it upon himself to adapt the momentous novel The Discovery of Heaven by Harry Mulisch into a screenplay. It resulted, amongst others, in a Golden Calf as best screenplay during the Dutch Oscar Awards.

Recently, Edwin teamed up with the crew of another movie, Leedvermaak, to continue his role as Hans in Frans Weisz's sequel Qui Vive. He also starred in the two big theatre- productions Art and Who is Afraid of Virginia Woolf? For this latter production Edwin received the Louis d'Or in May 2002, the highest Dutch prize for an actor.

Jeroen Krabbé

Jeroen Krabbé (1944) obtained a widely acclaimed reputation through his roles in the Paul Verhoeven such as Soldier of Orange (1977), the Cult- thriller The 4th Man (1979) and Ate de Jong's A Flight of Rainbirds (1981).

Since then, Jeroen has landed numerous of leading roles in a lot of international films, such as Penny Marshall's Jumpin' Jack Flash, The Fugitive with Harrison Ford, Richard Pierce's No Mercy and the James Bondmovie The Living Daylights from John Glenn.

Besides numerous of appearances in films, he also played in a lot of TV- series and theatre- plays. Jeroen gained his knowledge of film- technique on a lot of international filmsets. Also, the visual aspect of moviemaking is practically inborn, since he is a third generation artist. His movement from acting to directing can therefore be seen as a very natural development in Jeroen's career.

After his successful debut Left Luggage, The Discovery of Heaven was his second movie to direct. Both films were made with Ate de Jong and Edwin de Vries, which he both met on the set of Shadow of Victory (1986), and with whom he became close friends ever since.
