The Dutch film industry has a close tie with the organization to help children with a physical disability. To get funds from the public the cinemas showed a short at the start of their program and collected some money on the spot (this was discontinued a number of years ago) The short was renewed every two years and in 1972 and 1974 the commission was given to the Dutch Film Academy. Ate de Jong directed both films and can therefore boast about the fact that his first short was shown in all Dutch cinemas at the young age of eightteen.
